The new coatings are far superior to what came from the factory.

new cylinder or replate
For what bike? Some are more difficult to come by so you may have limited choices.

Re: new cylinder or replate
IIWM I'd buy a used one and have it replated if necessary, going to be cheaper than OEM. But like Pumpguy asked, which bike? Some are nearly unobtainium status.

Re: new cylinder or replate
If you have one that is recently replated, it will last a LONG time if you keep the dirt out and proper jetting / fuel.

MT did three of mine. You can get better QC from other places, but they've been good enough for me so far.

So many other bike areas that require attention. You may want to work on other areas.

Re: new cylinder or replate
Inspect all the bearings. The suspension linkage and swingarm are usually the most neglected. Hopefully the PO did some routine maintenance and you will be able to get the swingarm bolt out.deepwoods wrote:ok ? like what?

Re: new cylinder or replate
the bike is 16 years old but I don't think its got more than 50,60 hours on it, telltale signs are no slop whatsoever gearshift tip, rear brake tip, Kickstarter all very tight, stock tires half worn..etc

Re: new cylinder or replate
First thing would be to spring it correctly for your weight and get the sags set correctly. That alone will change the feel of the bike, and is the best bang for your buck upgrade IMO. Should end up being less than the cost of a new cylinder as well. After that if I was still looking to spend money I'd go pipe/silencer, RB head mod, RB carb mod, tubliss front/rear in that order. Or maybe skip tubliss and do all new bearings/seals for the entire bike (swingarm/linkage/wheels/steering), but I REALLY love my tubliss tire setup!

Re: new cylinder or replate
Stock tires?? OK, you need new tires. LOL. Soft and pliable, they ain't.
The suspension could be better set up for your weight, skill level and terrain.
Dirt bikes are money pits. Pour it into the proper areas of the pit.

Re: new cylinder or replate
hehe yes but the tires are changed to new bridge stones now so thats all good, the bike might be a touch soft for me but it handles pretty good ,feels flickable, and softens the blows pretty good hehe , I want to change the fork and shock oil next winter maybe.. I have one spare engine for all my other bikes so I just want to have it for a rainy day hehe, and I think its cheaper for me to buy a used engine with cylinder on it, rebuild that than to buy all things separate..
