New to me 1990 KDX200
1st time KDX owner, my KX500 had been breaking my bones the last couple of years so I figured I'd try something more manageable for my 145lb body. We ride lots of desert and singletrack so this should be a good bike for it all. It has 4500 miles on it with 800 miles on its 1st top end. Pro circuit pipe and silencer, Both Devol and Scotts guards from back in the day. Still had the stock bars and sprockets on it!! Changing the bars out and getting the suspension somewhat setup. It has heavier springs in front but unknown on the weight. The rear spring is stock and should work for me. Looking forward to playing with this KDX and maybe even doing a few hare scrambles and GP's with it. This will be my go to bike for most of our rides. I also have a 1996 CR250, 2011 YZ125 and a vintage 1973 CZ400. The 2003 KX500 will be leaving so I'm not tempted to ride it again. I've got extra parts for the 500 that will work great on the 200, foot pegs, side panels, front fenders etc. Picked it up last Saturday, now tearing it down getting it clean and should be ready by the weekend to ride.

If I may ask a favor, AND you have time, can you check fuel tank swaps between the KDX and the KX500?

Congratulations, that's a really clean bike! It's surprising how many KDXs I see on Craigslist that are still in good/great shape.

Thanks!! It's surprising clean and stock. I tried my IMS tank last night and it mounts up To the frame but the shrouds don't mount with the radiators. Foot pegs work and the seat might. What size is the IMS tank?
Dirt Bike had an article a LONG time ago about swapping a KDX tank onto a KX250?? or KX500?? for more capacity. I am wondering if less capacity KX250 or KX500 tank would work on the "E" model. When you see "E" model on this forum, that mean 1989 - 1994 USA KDX200. Almost all the parts are the same for the whole 6 years, but there were a few changes throughout the years, with the largest change being the 1993 - 1994 USD forks.

Welcome aboard. You've got a great find there.
I just got my hands on a 98 rm250. It has some of the best conventional forks ever made.
But I definitely like the KDX better (I have a 92, but it doesn't look nearly as good as yours.
Which desert are you riding in?

Aha! I Did a rally weekend in the Mojave not too long ago. Lake beds were cool. Haven't ridden it yet, picked it up last Saturday and have it torn apart cleaning, getting the shock serviced and adding different bars. Cool! I rebuilt my engine twice before really getting to ride it and see what it's like. But I bought it seized and in terrible shape. Check and keep a close eye on those KIPS valves. That is really one of the only weak points for 89-94. Generally they don't do any other damage, other than the rare instance where a piece of broken valve gets into the cylinder. It does seriously impact performance though.

Yup, other than that keep an eye on bolts and use blue loctite where not prohibited. These bikes vibe a lot.

Thanks, Ill keep an eye on the KIPS and the Loctite is out and getting used. Just waiting on parts to show up.

How did you get the IMS pegs to work. I have the same pegs I am trying to mount on my KDX and I am puzzled at how to get the springs to work and how to take up the extra space in between the mount tabs.
