Here's an article from an old DR magazine I dug out of the basement recently. Enjoy!

Cool stuff.
One of my buddies had a KDX200 back in the day.
Jeeez....... Over 30 years ago!
We used to beat the crap out of our stuff. I was on a KDX175SR (?) or a Chapparal 1?? and very briefly on a Maico 250.
My other buddy was on a suzuki of some kind, a PE probably.
All three bikes broke and needed towing out regularly. That was part of riding.
We rode from Attleboro almost all the way out to Cape Cod one Saturday.
RR tracks, power lines, back roads.
Thanks for the trip dfeckel!

Awesome article. Thanks for posting! I love all the comparison articles from these bikes.
Not sure how they came up with 24hp for a stock RMX250 though????
I have ridden a completely stock RMX (Stock pipe, silencer, reeds, carb, piston). It was scary fast! Felt like an RM motor with a little more bottom end and slightly less top end.
I would have guessed it was 2-3 peak hp less than the RM motocross motor.

That explains it. I'm not sure about a Power Valve limiter, but there was no throttle stop. I guess if it only opens up to 2/3 throttle or so, it wouldn't make much power.dfeckel wrote:I've never ridden an RMX, but I've always read is that the stocker was heavily restricted. This article says it had not only a throttle limiter, but also a power valve limiter. I wonder if the stocker you rode had the limiters removed?
