Did the ever Update or Upgrade the piston on a 220R?
I just picked up a pristine 2004 KDX220R. It looked brand new. I rode 43 miles on Sunday and loved every minute of it. I have read about the piston issue. Did Kawasaki not get this straightened out by 2004?

Beautiful! According to what I've read, Kawasaki never corrected the issue. Throw a Wiseco in there and ride worry free!

Damn them! At first I was worried the bike wouldn't have enough power, but after my first ride I was ecstatic. I'm a 32 year old(as of today) that rides trail only. I am not big on jumps, wheelies, or crazy hill climbs. I just like to putt around in the woods, and sometimes let her rip!
Do you guys know if there is a way to identify which Gnarly Pipe I have?

Happy Birthday!
I don't know if the pipes have stock numbers on them or not, that is the first thing I'd look for though. The Desert pipe is # 020056 and the Woods pipe is #020057. The 220 has plenty of bottom pull, seems like folks lean towards the Desert pipe for a 220 to help out it rev out better.

Great looking bike!
Yep. Give it a top end job with a Wiseco piston and no longer worry about it.DirtBikeDad wrote:Beautiful! According to what I've read, Kawasaki never corrected the issue. Throw a Wiseco in there and ride worry free!

I live in murfreesboro, tn. Where do you ride...maybe we can get together sometime.
John
John, I live right down the road in Antioch. There is a place we can ride in Antioch called the Boneyard. Its about 10+ miles of tight single track. He charges $20 but for it to be so close its worth it. I am heading with a group to Westpoint this weekend. If you want to go let me know. Its about a 1.5hr ride.
