A license plate would add much greatness to my KDX. Then I could just ride from my house to the trail head for a quick lap around Jones Creek without having to load and unload my truck.
KX 250, KDX 220, KDX 220, KDX 200, CR 80

The main reason I bought the KDX I have is because it had a plate. Of course Nevada wouldn't re-register it for the street so it has an Az plate. The bike sucks on the street, but having a plate is necessary in some places I like to ride, Arrowhead and hopefully Moab again if it stays open.
If I had to list the ultimate mods I'd like to have they would be:
BD dual sport kit w/leds
Ohlins suspension
Scotts stabilizer, submounted
Pro tapers
Renazco seat (you can never be too comfortable)
IMS pegs
Handguards w/led signals
225cc EG engine
VF III reeds
PC exhaust
Trials rear tire (I think?)
Scorpion pro front
All available protection, skid plate, pipe/brake/radiator guards etc.
Clarke Gas Tank
O ring chain
One of Inda's coils
Trail tech HID light
GPS
Spare rear wheel with a paddle tire
black and white plastic

It's not more bulletproof.... especially the KIPS components. It's just ported better and has a more linear power delivery.... more grunt down low.

I don't think he's talking about the noise it makes when you sit on it.

I seldom post but I like this thread. This would be my ultimate kdx *IF I modded my bike:
*Fredette ported motor set up for pump gas
Cylinder plated by millenium (CC's pics have me scared of US Chrome)
VF3
RB'd AS carb and head mod
Parris racing modified crank
dial-a-jet
48mm Kayaba's up front shortened and front and back revalved by race-tech
trail tech kickstand
FMF rev and Q silencer
Sidewinder sprockets and smart chain (13/48)
scotts sub mount
pro taper evo bars in cr hi
trail tech vapor computer
clarke 3.6 gallon tank
trail tech HID eclipse light
all available armor
silver powder coating on the frame
Black excel rims
trials or a maxxis IT desert rear tire, Bridgestone ED77 up front
FRP kickstart lever
Long enough list, eh?

I really believe that was a US Chrome Screw Up. There are others who have had his porting & reported No Problems...fuzzy wrote:CC's pics should scare you away from Fredette's porting too.....despite him being a great KDXer.

I can port your bike and it will have no 'problems' running but it's not going to be the best port job you can get I think most of the unliked traits can be linked to how seriousely hogged out the intake tract gets....which is why I referenced CC's pics. Looks like it was done with a die grinder suitable for grinding on top fuel hemi ports that you can put your fist through. For all I know not much is done to the cylinder porting (and not much ever should be as a little means a lot)....With the exception of the 220 in which the plating should be stripped, the ports filled, re-ported, and then replated. ;) My point being some of the best engine builders in the country have never piloted the machines they build engines for...they could care less. Fredette is the KDX king, but IMHO ain't no engine builder. Nor am I.

I do have a 220 and it sure seems like the stock porting isn't exactly wow. EG is a reputable engine builder. Would his "mo' better porting" be a viable alternative or should porting be avoided altogether? Jeff Slavens is also a reputable engine builder but as far as I know he only does KTMs. He claims that his personal bike (KTM 300) gets 90 miles to a stock tank with his "mule port" and his custom "mountain jet kit." This is all just wishful thinking anyway. I day dream about all the things I could do to my bike all the time. So thanks for helping me with my day dreaming!
