I have an extra side panel that is cracked. Besides cash , what have you guys used to try to repair a cracked side panel or fender? How well did these techniques hold up? I don't care for the Frankenstein technique where a hole is drilled on opposite sides and then it is stitched together with wire. This is more out of curiosity than necessity, but any and all wild ideas are appreciated.
Thanks!

Jason,
Maybe you could locate some plastic welding rod and use a soldering gun to try and repair the panel.
You could also fiberglass the back side, fill the small crack in the front with bondo and repaint.
My experience with thermo plastics is, they are a pain to repair.

If you don't like wire you could use zip-tyes!Jason wrote: I don't care for the Frankenstein technique where a hole is drilled on opposite sides and then it is stitched together with wire.
Thanks!

Autobody bumper repair is a generic statement Jason.
Duramix and SEM make an assortment of plastic repair products. Need to know the type of plastic that the panels are made out of and then the autobody supply shop has references as to the specific products that will work with that plastic. Some of the products cover a range of plastics. i.e. SEM 39768 is a 'Problem Plastic Repair Material' fomulation good for "EPDM, TPO, PP and other problem plastics" Duramix 4039 is another flexible plastic repair fomulation specific to different plastics. That is the good news.
The bad news is these are relatively expensive expoxy type plastics and are suitable for use on high $$$ items like snowmachine hoods, fairings, bumpers, power mirrors, etc. Even the small tubes of most of these plastics (~2 ozs) usually cost about what it will cost to replace the plastic panel on the bike.
