KDX 200 carb bowl fuel level
Does anyone know what the fuel level (not float level) should be for a '97 KDX 200?
Thanks
Thanks

Cool! Thanks for the info....
I know how to measure it but never had a need too... so the spec was never needed.

I was having trouble getting a float level measurement that I could trust. I wasn't 100% sure that I wasn't compressing the spring.
I recently bought a bunch of jets and ordered an extra bowl drain cap. I drilled out a hole and fitted a fuel nipple in it so I could measure the fuel level.
I'm glad I did b/c the float measurement that I thought I had correct was letting too much fuel into the carb.

Not to pick....but...
If you are unsure as to whether the spring pin was/is being compressed during a float drop setup, it follows that any float drop measurment is suspect.
...and so would any fuel level measurement resulting from such a setting.
Your 18mm float drop may result in a fuel level of -1mm. My 18mm drop may result in a -4mm fuel level.
What does your 0-2mm fuel level equate to float drop-wise?
...when adjusted using spec'd procedure? (pin touching, not compressed)

I probably didn't understand something.....Tedh98 wrote:In case anyone wants to know for the future, the fuel level is 0-2mm below the float bowl mating surface.
When you said, '...the fuel level is..', I thought that was a measurement off your bike.
Maybe not.
That's a specification from someplace?
The way to extrapolate the fuel level is to set the float level to spec, then measure the resultant fuel level. ..which is what I thought you had done. Obviously there's a big hitch in that process if the float level is incorrectly done to start with.
This isn't an 'end of the world' issue. I'm merely curious.
Thanks.

CC - I can see where I wasn't clear.
I got the 0-2mm spec from Cyclopedia. I installed my homemade fuel level adapter and kept adjusting the float until the fuel was 1mm below the mating surface. Once I had it at that point, I didn't go back to remove the bowl and see where the float was at.
I figured I wasn't measuring correctly in the first place (my attempt at measuring the float resulting in fuel running out of the overflow) so any other measurements wouldn't be useful.

Got it. Thanks. That makes perfect sense to my liddle biddy brain cell.
With the floats adjusted to spec it's common for the KDX to pee when it's on its kickstand.
It might pee no matter what levels you set if the needle is worn ('natch) or if the needle seat is corroded/varnished up/grungy.
What 'ya NEED is an external adjustment so you can set the fuel level without taking the bowl off.
Let us know when you get that handled!

As you probably alreay know, as you are measuring with your homemade tubing, you can move your tubing sight glass down and more fuel comes in to the tube, but you can't move it up because it will be a false reading.Tedh98 wrote:CC - I can see where I wasn't clear.

I like to use the "sight glass" tubing with the carb off the motor, but mounted to my stand at the same relative height as the installed carb referenced to the fuel tank. That way, I can level the carb accurately and use the head pressure of the tank.

The method you are using is fantastic.Tedh98 wrote:CC - I can see where I wasn't clear.

It takes away need to replace defective parts like a float or a needle cause you are off setting the variables by setting by the fuel levels themselves.
BTW Holly make several carbs that have float levels that can be set from the outside maybe you could incorporate them into you PWK.
Good Luck

Gee! Is THAT where I got the 'set from outside' idea I wonder?
Just maybe there's one'a those 'Holly' things in here:
