Free Showa forks: Here's my plan
Now that I have my 220 exactly where I want it, why not tinker some more, right?
I found a '99 220 that is 2 hrs. away that has a set of Showa forks on. It is a nice bike with FMF Gnarly pipe, Boyesen rad valve, and a 1 year old top end with Weisco piston. He is asking $2000, which is in the ballpark for these parts.
Now the plan. I pick up the 220 with Showas and then take off all of the goodies on my 220 and put them on the bike with USD's. Then, I turn around and sell my '97 220 for the same price.
I would end up with a '99 220 with Showa forks, Pro Circuit pipe with pipe guard and silencer, RB carb and head mod, Boyesen rad valve, Weisco piston, Guts tall gripper seat, KX rear fender, Clarke tank, Renthal mini high race bars, Acerbris handguards, Works Connection frame guards, rad guards and skid plate, and IMS pegs.
I would still have a nice '97 to sell that would be nicely equipped with tons of extras. I could probably get right around $2000 out of it, so I would break even.
Should I go for it? The only risk would be my marriage

Crap! I knew it was too good to be true. Just talked to the owner and what a joke. Bike does not even run right now. Needs quite a bit of work and better yet he does not have Showa forks. He thinks the stock forks are Showa because they were "serviced by Showa" . White trash, what are you gonna do.
Oh well, I guess it is a sign from above.

The same kind of thing has happened to me, LOL, you never know what someone has until you get to see it. I once drove a hundred miles to see a 56 ford that turned out to be a 51 ford.
Look out for those skinny little showas!

Re: 'Just talked to the owner and what a joke.'
If what he SAID in the first place was good..and what he SAID in the second place was bad...maybe he has no idea WHAT he is talking about.
It's probably got a WPS suspension..and that 220 is really a 240 from EG.
...and it don't run 'cuz he left the sparky wire off the plug!
I'll bet he's confused because the cover on the side sez 'KIPS' and the shroud decals say 'KDX'..but the motor's is actually in an aluminum CR frame that someone hybridded to the best bike ever!
Let us know what it REALLY is when you drive over and take a look-see.
Offer him $1200 for it. Use the money you save to buy the wife some decent luggage. Well...at least 'a' suitcase!!
