Yes #2. You're using the same bottom clamp..the mount is the same, then.
Performance gain?
Not exactly. Any improvement in handling is a good thing, though, and any time you're not falling down or getting pitched sideways..that's a good thing, too.
Extra $300?
The two mentioned (WER and Scotts) aren't the same animal.

I would call an improvement in handling a performance gain, so we were speaking the same terms in different lauguages. More specifically, what do I get for my 3, 4, or 5 bills, and what is the difference between the animials?

A lot of this is going to come down to a matter of preference and opinion. Simply put, the WER doesn't do much..the Scotts works. I've used both (not on the same bike).
There is one adjustment on the WER..level of damping. It has no hi/lo speed hydraulics in it.
The Scotts does have both hi/lo circuits, both are adjustable, the angle it applies damping to is adjustable.
A WER on 'max' damps at a level you can barely feel. Yes...I understand the 'if you can feel it, it's too high' idea..I'm just indicating the level at which it can be adjusted to.
Put a Scotts on 'max'..and the bars will be hard to move.
If you have a chance to ride with both...do. Pick the one that suits you.
Oh..Scotts has both dirt and street damping. Dirt is a zero damp on return setup..street damps both ways.
