Cheap Std. Chain on Ebay?
Hey guys ,
I am thinking of buying a non oring chain off of Ebay
there $17.00. are they Junk? Can I get a season out of it?
also...i'm going to leave my half worn steel sprockets on and only replace the chain.
I am thinking of doing this as a performance gain.
My o'ring chain barely lets me free hand spin the rear wheel.
There has to be a performance gain from running a std chain !?

I don't have any trouble with mine. I clean it and lube it every once in awhile specially when it's muddy. My o'ring chain barely lets me free hand spin the rear wheel.
Are you sure the chain is the problem and not something else like bearings, or brake drag.....
As for the 17$ chain, for that price I'd give it a shot especially since you won't replace your
you can be the guinea pighalf worn steel sprockets

When there is a lot of crud and old lub on your chain, I use WD 40 let it soak for awhile (1h) then blow the crud with compressed air. For the hard spot, i use a brush. (soft wire). I found it easier to just remove the chain and clean it 1 link at a time with some old rag (for when it's really dirty)
Good luck

I've known some riders that thought the ebay chain was worth a go.
They found out they were wrong.
Running an excellent chain on worn sprockets will get you the performance (wear) of a crummy chain...which is what '01 already said.
There is a performance gain from a ringed to a non-ringed chain. Doubt it's anything you would feel/notice.

The resistance encountered by the wheel pushing the chain (more) isn't what the engine sees pulling the chain (less).
I wouldn't equate 'barely lets me free hand spin the rear wheel..' to 'about 1 1/2 good reveloutions'
That being equated:

Yep! And about as good as it's going to get.Good enough.
