Tires
Ok guys, I need a new rear for my kdx and my dr. Any suggestions? The kd has a Dunlop 737 110/100/18 and the dr has a kenda k778 120/90/18. Im not sure really how old either are, but the po of the dr said he replaced it recently (nov) an its shot. I like to ride all kinds of stuff, trails, some wet, some dry, and some hard mx tracks. I guess i need a medium tire. Any suggestions? Thanks, Rick

Well, one of the places i ride has alot of (hard) spots. I probably need something on the more durable side. Dont need to go fish tailin that fast. Thanks

I am running a Pirelli MT16 works well but has no rim saver, also have a Maxxis IT and desert IT. these are my best tires for all around riding sand/mud/perfectloam/rock//hardpack. all of these conditions mix up, down here in south Texas. So far the Maxxis desert IT holds up the longest and is the best for running 10-12psi,and will not tear or chunk knobs. In about 3 months I will tell you how the MT16 holds up. the MT 16 tracks good in flat corners.

I've had decent luck with the Maxxis Maxx Cross IT running terrain more or less similar to what we ran last Sunday up at Haspin. These tires seem to yield a reasonable value at RMMC prices. The Maxxis SI also is a decent tire although it costs just a bit more than the IT.

The maxxis IT and the terrain I ride in did not get along so well... The place I ride at often from lack of rain and heavy use form a layer of fine loose dirt up to about 3-4 inches deep in some areas and the IT had zero, none, no hook up what so ever in those areas. It made it so hard to accelerate out of corners. So i took that tire off with quite a bit of life left in it (about 3/4 of the tread left) and put on an IRC M5B which I am still running. The tire has great hook up and has worn pretty well, but I am missing like 32 knobbies and there is still about 1/2 to 3/4 of the tread left. so I want be buying another one of those. I think I might try the Dunlop 952 next.

I think the dunlop 756 is a good all round tire. But saying that if you ride lots of soft terrain i'd go 773 dunlop which lasted 6 months on the four stroke and provides great soft grip. Or maybe the dunlop 756 if you ride alot of variation, ive heard good things from the dunlops so thats just my opinion.

I have the Pirelli MT-16 in the rear - 110/100. It hooks up quite well unless I'm in the worst of slop (then again what would) and the wear is great (no chunking, 'still got sharp edges after a few hundred miles). It's been working for me in conditions ranging from muddy uphills to mx track hardpack. Great "all-around" tire.
My next rear tire will be an MT-16 . . .

I wanted to add after 200 miles the MT-16 is the best tire as far as traction goes, climbing deep V rutted washed out hills it will stick to the side of a deep rut going up hill with out falling in the rut.krazyinski wrote:I am running a Pirelli MT16 works well but has no rim saver, also have a Maxxis IT and desert IT. these are my best tires for all around riding sand/mud/perfectloam/rock//hardpack. all of these conditions mix up, down here in south Texas. If your running in multi terran like I do, the MT is showing wear a lot faster than the Maxxis desert IT after the same time period. I guess its the hard pack with shale rock that is hard on it.
Best traction MT-16 with good wear, great for all changing trail conditions.
Best wear and good to best traction Maxxis desert IT. good in most trail conditions, great in desert like conditions takes side wall hits from sharp rocks lugs will wear even all the way down if you turn the tire around at mid life. A good 6 month tire if riding every week at a A or B level.

buying a tire is like getting your hair cut, go to right place and it will be all good go to the wrong place and you look goofy for a while, in both cases it will grow back or fall out. then get to do it all over again.Rick wrote:Thanks for all the input guys. I still havent decided!
tires are the same they wear out no mater how good or bad they are.
