About to Start

Post by jstcraig »

A while ago a long while ago I joined the forum, recently I was ready to sell the 200Sr, so I drag it out and placed an add and had some good response, but the more I thought about it the less my desire to move her on. So let’s get down to the questions
Cooling System - tips for filling it up, it’s been dry for years.
Frozen Petcock - I believed the tank was drained but it looks like the tap was turned off and the carb was drained, would it be advisable to remove the tap and run it through a hydrosonic cleaner ?
Cheers for any and all comments ans advice.

Hello. Welcome back. :partyman:

I would try straight distilled water for right now. If it cranks and runs, then worry about proper distilled water and coolant combo.
I see the tank is metal. In the USA, we just had the plastic version. Ours have an o-ring or two that could be checked out. There is also a screen in ours that needs to be checked when the petcock is taken out.

Check for rust in the tank.

Hi Jason how’s things,I like the idea of plastic tank this one sounds like a money box with a couple of coins in it ☹️, I will keep flushing it and dump ranex in and then tank cream it, the petcock is out and stripped none of the large seals have survived but at least it isn’t frozen any more, oops I should have used distilled but it will only took about maybe 2 litres and I will drain again in a couple of days just waiting to see if it loses any, have to remove and clean the carb and replace the inlet and filters. Hey Jason if ur scanning, do you have or know where a pic of the US. tank for the 200e might be found, I’am want to assume but have no choice as a parts search for tanks and petcock doesn’t look anything like what is on this AUS. model. ??

Just look on Google images. There are a ton of E model tank pics on there. Just use 1989, 1990, etc. And fuel tank or gas tank to see a ton.

No F or G in the USA, just E, off road only.

Part 1
Well the Carby was frozen solid and I started with a lever under the slide jst so I could remove the throttle cable. An hour and a half later the ultrasonic cleaner has started to work it’s magic and I have it completely dismantled and ready for the last clean. Wish me luck I want to have this running by the end of the month but no pressure lol

I don't know if they make one for an SR, but I have had good success with Twin Air.

I’ve found a stock one online, although I was considering a pod style and an air box mod, I want to keep the air box as I have had issue with removing them with some road bikes

Woohoo I jst nabbed the last kdx200f PE28 inlet manifold in Oz, really got lucky after being told it was out with the Dinosaurs

The latest image highlights the obvious difference between Sr and E manifold, I have an E manifold on the way will be good to be able to do side by side comparison.
Check out the date on the second image I think this was jst waiting for me to ask for it [emoji38]

Another Positive
Drain the transmission last night and was pleasantly surprised that only old oil came out no water, so fingers crossed when it’s running the water pump seals will hold.

Update
Oil injection is in hold due to parts availability and a weep hole in the oil reservoir tank

Are you saying the tanks are suppose to have weep holes ???
Anyway this oil tank sits so close to the top of the pipe the heat has degraded the nylon and it weeps oil which runs down the hose . I'm wondering if the exhaust has been buckled causing it to sit so close ??. It's an easy fix remove the tank and block the hoses till I repair the tank and get a new check valve but maybe I've got it all wrong.

OK, it has a leak, not any weep hole. Thanks.

Without seeing one, I would assume yours is just damaged. How much did you pay for this smooth ride anyway?
