KDX Newb from Vegas
So a little back story, I recently picked up a KTM 125SX, an 03 with a bad engine for 400 dollars. I decided to go the 200 conversion route, and have 900 dollars worth of engine parts coming in. I figured if I could get a good solid bike for ~2k I'd be happy. Fast forward next week, (yesterday!) and I got an offer I couldn't refuse, and got an 04 KDX200 for 140 dollars. The frame is cracked, the suspension is blown in the front, etc. I bought it not running, having sat outside for a few years. Has an FMF fatty. Got home, plugged the spark wire back in, checked the fluids, kicked it about 70 times and it runs. Now, with the blown suspension and ruined frame, is it worth building a hybrid? I rode it around a bit and the engine is awesome, so smooth.

Frames can be welded. What do you mean by "blown" suspension?

I mean, those were the two types of bikes I was looking for when I did mine.... a KX125 with a blown motor, but good chassis and a KDX with a clapped chassis but good motor. For 140 bucks, yea I'd say its good to start building a hybrid with. Knowing how bad of shape the rest of the bike was in though, I'd probably want to split the cases and do a rebuild on it.

The forks feel like springs only, and nearly bottom out sitting on it. The whole rear "subframe" area is snapped off upon removing the seat lol. I figured I could make up a new subframe area and weld it back on, but not sure if it's worth that. Could go with rebuilding the front suspension and a new eBay frame, or the hybrid route.

Welcome to the site. Any welding questions I can probably help you with.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Thanks Molly, I can sort-of tig at the moment, the welds are ugly but they work. I've read a few about AF conversions but I don't know if I'm ready to weld aluminum yet.

I can help with welding advice, but I don't know what an AF conversion is?

It took me a while to figure it out, too when I first saw it.
