Plug removal

Post by Vossman »

Is there a way or tool to get the spark plug out without taking the tank off? I can't get a regular combo wrench around it, just a socket after taking off the tank.

04 KDX 200 btw.

I use the plug wrench like this one

You won't have to remove the tank using this type of wrench. There are a number of good ones. I really liked the Kawasaki plug/spoke wrench that came with the bike, but misplaced along the way.

I use this one http://www.autozone.com/miscellaneous-n ... /65358_0_0

I had to cut the smaller end off and drill a hole through it, but it works.

I use this super basic one from Rocky Mountain..... It works great, don't need to remove anything. There's a ratcheting one too for a few bucks more. Can't really go wrong for $5, haha

Good old combination wrench...nothing special needed. Cut an old one down to carry with you on rides.

I use a spark plug socket and a small adjustable wrench. Once you break the plug free take the socket off and finish by hand.

Same here. I have an old wrench that I cut off and ground down as my plug wrench. Works fine.

I'm guilty of having a specialty wrench for my plug AND float bowl lol. The Tusk one like thirdgen mentioned. They were both bought to help get me to $75 at RMATV for free shipping. That Tusk float bowl wrench is a beautiful thing haha. Too bad it doesn't fit the spark plug also (its so close at 17mm)

I was thinking that this thread had the makings for a "which pre-mix oil" debate! Lol. I am with Jason, I like tools! Any tool under $20 is on a stocking stuffer list for Christmas.

I carry the same one. Don't buy the ratcheting one. I did and it doesn't fit. A little too thick.

You're right! Not enough room due to the water connection boss on the cylinder head is very close to the spark plug.

Now I have to see if RMATV will exchange it.

That's my issue with the combo wrench.
