Is it a solid rod or a cable? The parts break down looks like a cable.

New 1987 KDX 200 Owner ! Help!
Thanks for posting the part number. I took a look at the parts diagram, and it shows this to be a straight rod with threads on one end, and a clevis at the other.
If you have, or know someone who has metal working skills, this shouldn't be too hard to make. No tricky bends or fabrication involved. Hardware stores sell suitable size clevis and rod stock. I would think 1/4" or maybe even 3/16" would be suitable.

New 1987 KDX 200 Owner ! Help!
I ran into a similiar problem on my kdx 220. The part was obsolete on all big part sites and was not longer being produced by Kawasaki. Here is what I did to find the part I needed.
Call FRP racing ((708) 946-0999) tell them the part number you are looking for and describe the part. (It is important to describe the part as the part number I was looking for was one digit off from what they had in their records ) However, they shipped the part, it fit perfectly and was exactly what I needed.

It's a cable, I have one mine on my project.
Jeff Fredette is not a fan of the cable, as he recommends putting some additional tension on the cable, due to Rr drum lock up.
I would consider the Honda XR line, probably the XR250 86-89, steel rod, which works quite well and designed to come from the top.
I believe the IT line is designed from the bottom. The 86-88 KDX 200 comes from the top.
Hope this was of some help.

It's a cable.
OP, why did you capitalize every word in your first post????
and welcome to the forums.
Request time. If it is a beautiful restoration, please don't put some oddball part on it from an IT.

OK, just happen to have an XR250R rear brake rod, so did some measurements.
XR250R rod is not a fit, 22.5" long, the 87 KDX 200 cable is 24" long w/ 4.5" of threaded rod.
Must be the difference in the swing arm length, perhaps an XR350R, XR500R, or XR 600R
steel rod would be a better fit, dunno, or something in the early 80's KX years might fit.

Well if it's too long, can't you cut and thread to the needed length?

Side note, read an article which stated the Jeff Fredette recommends the 83-85 KDX 200
steel rod to replace the cable on the 86-88's, so if you are still in the market for that
cable replacement, that's more than likely a better fit as a replacement.
Checked Evil Bay, no luck.
Hope this was of some help.
