We had a good thread going a few months ago that touched on the race gas toluene issue. The tread was titled, "octane boosters"The race fuel although the octane is high, burns slower. This slow burn takes away a lot of bottom end. I really noticed this when using 100LL av gas. The toluene has more energy potential per volume than race gas and regular gasoline. Carvr can esplain the theory behind it all

We had a good thread going a few months back. I think the title was “octane boosters”
The thread explained the different burn rates of race gas, premium pump gas and toluene.
Race gas has a higher octane and slower burn rate, not good for bottom end grunt on a 2 stroke. Toluene has more potentional energy per volume than other fuels. Carvr can esplain al the details……

Gee dave...say stuff a few more times!!
'Race gas' doesn't mean anything. There are many different 'recipes' for the many different fuels that can be called 'race gas'. The idea that dumping in some hi-dollar fuel is going to automatically equate to a performance increase is just silly. Actually, there's a good chance the engine won't perform as well.
There's a good lot of info in the thread dave mentioned. Rohrich has some very good articles on fuel on the forward motion (EG's) site. The distillation curve of a particular fuel will give you an idea of how it is designed to perform.
Expensive? Pretty much. Trick114 around here is still under $6/gallon last I bought it. A gallon of toluene in these parts is about $10.
Don't bother calling around to find it, probably. I've been told on the phone, 'Nope. We don't have it.' Then, when actually STANDING at the counter I'm told, 'Sure. We got it.' If you show up LOOKING like a drug addict you will probably get the same answer at the counter as you would on the phone.

Sorry about the repeats. I seem to be a bit OCD about the toluene subject

Observations:
1.Tolulene is an octane booster
2. May be hard to get locally
3. Is cheaper to use than finding Race Gas
So, If I can find it, it will be worth trying out at a concentration of 20% or less.
What would be a good starting point? 5%?
After I get my modified head back from RBD, if it advised that I use Tolulene or race gas or is premium going to do the trick?
Thanks!

Skipro - is that picture really CC??
If it is - Maybe, Just Maybe, his mug WAS the reason he was able to buy the Toluene! They may say "No" over the phone - then when you come in to the shop they think - No problem Brother! LOL
FWIW - I know if I call a couple of the paint stores in town and question them about some painting supplies they will tell me that they can not sell to the general public. However, when I show up and know what I want they will mix it up and sell it to me. I'm sure In-My-Case however - it is the youthful looks and mature mind which gets the goods!

It's on PBS, the Publik Broadcasting Station. Usually affiliated with educational TV.
Duct tape: The handyman's secret weapon!!!
I usually get a DVD of several episodes as birthday or Christmas gifts from someone. A great show.
