What's your take on this
Just took the bike down today and look what I found. What Do YOU Guys think. It was replated a little over a year ago.

Well, that's not very pretty. Looks like it was a hair too tight. It would be interesting to see what the cylinder looks like all cleaned up. I think it will be usable.

There is no scratches in the piston or the cylinder. I'm just concerned obout all the blow by. Seems excessive for a cylinder without much time on it. I was wondering if the piston or cylinder is out of round.

The piston looks like it was verging on a multipoint type of siezeure. Like it was just barely making contact. I guess without a bore gauge checking for out of round is going to be impossible. How was the compression?

use fine sandpaper to rough up the cylinder and if the ring end gap is still within specs then slap it all back together.

This can't be a good sign. You can see this in several spots.[/img]

Hmmm. That is not encouraging. Who did the re-plate?

Lancourt. I hope it's just the ring. I'm bringing it to the bike shop tonight to get measure. I hope it can be fixed. My hope is it can be diamond honed to the proper spec.I cleaned up the cylinder and it mildly seized in 6 places. That's one bad thing about the kdx you just can't kill it I've been riding it for a year not knowing it looked like that. I sent an email to lancourt there said they would let a tech look at photos. I sure hope it can be fixed without having to wait another month for a replate.

If you rotate the ring, does the gap follow the ring or does the gap stay in the same spot?royadams wrote:I hope it's just the ring.

Re: What's your take on this
It's hard to say there is several spots and I did not have anything to mark it with. I took it to the bike shop and with a telescopic gauge it seems to be fine. He is going to drop it by the machine shop just to make sure.and check piston clearance. Maybe I just cold seized it. I do let it warm up before I ride, but who knows.
