Kips lubricant

Post by waldo177 »

Just a quick question, what is the best high temp grease to use to lubricate the kips components? White lithium grease?

I'm in the process of rebuilding my top end and the manual says to lubricate the o ring on the valve shafts with high temp grease and I'm trying to figure out what to use

Whatever oil you use to mix with your gas. I always just pour some in the cap and dip my finger in it and coat the KIPS parts during reassembly.

Well, I suppose you could use high temp grease, since that's what the manual says. I figure premix/2-stroke oil is what's going to lubricate the parts while you operate the bike, so why not use it for assembly? I'd imagine either way should be okay.

Someone posted this link in another thread recently and I was reading it last night.

http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/657765 ... to-kdx200/

He used pre-mix oil to lube all the KIPS parts during assembly. Seems like the best way to go to me. If you used hi temp grease on those parts, wouldn't the pre-mix oil mix in with the grease while the motor is running? Just seems odd to me, I must be missing something.

I soaked my kips parts in 2-T oil before assembly, overnight IIRC.....Couldn't think of anything better to use.

I think getting the parts cleaned good is more important than what oil is on it. As long as it moves freely it should be fine.

Kips lubricant

Post by Sullyfam »

If I read your 2nd post (#4) correctly, you are asking what to put on the O ring versus the other kips components. As others have said, premix oil on the parts and o ring works just fine. However, if you want to follow the manual then any auto parts store will have high temp grease you can use for just the o ring.
