Well, I'm well on the road now...
After much strategic thought, and careful bidding I have now won the following components for my over-the-winter USD fork conversion:
A 2003 KX axle.
yep, that's it. at least the seller is willing to combine shipping on multiple items. Some guys are willing to pay a lot for this stuff!

Tell me about it! Those forks I bid on went up to $135!
Those were 90-91 KX 125 forks with the trees.

Cnogratulations, you are into it now!
The wheel and forks did jump a lot at the end!
Indawoods, those were actually 1990 forks. 1991 forks are bigger and blue.

I'd guess '03s will be more $$ than '02s and a few years lower...just because a lot of people will have the idea that the couple mm larger diameter is the hot setup.
Good start, though!! Goes to show 'ya...I went about it all backwards 'cuz I got the axle last!
Full speed ahead Mike!!!

Were those the ones from keepitroostincom? The KYB Works Kit would have been nice!

Yeah. I just got an 'ending soon' notice on those.
They was pretty!
I'm sure I'll like my new 48mm forks...er, I mean...someone will!
That's a lot of $$ for a set of forks. The sticker doesn't mean much. Maybe they were well done, maybe not.
My forks had such a sticker. Not a 'Works' sticker, but a sticker from some other nationally advertised fork outfit. That's why I went as high as I did ($225 as I recall).
The base valves had: 1. An o-ring missing from one piston, 2. The retainer nuts were on upside down, 3. The shim stacks were different one from the other. Not in a meaningful way..just screwed up!
There will be other sets (he said hopefully).

Uhhh, like a full house beats two pair, a Pro Circuit KYB Works Kit sticker beats a Mount Pilot, I mean Pro Pilot sticker.
Just messin' with ya!
EDIT: I just cked to see what they went for... $290 with clamps is not bad at all!! If they really do have the PC KYB Works Kit and not just a sticker, then it would have been worth it!!

Wait a minute ,, if I get green plastic for my son's CRF...that'll be 3 green ones in the garage... the female mind can't process that much lime.. they just go silly with it... she'll never notice the 4th one didn't used to be there.... Thanks guys, off to ebay again... <click>

If your willing to look at any of the KX forks from any year, you will still be better off than keeping your KDX forks.
I just bought a set of 95 KX forks with trees and bar mounts for $97 shipped. And a wheel with axle and spacers for $90 shipped.
$187 for a 95 Complete frontend is cheap.
What did I gain?
No underhang, rebound adjustments and stiffer forks.
What will come out of my pocket after I recieve the parts?
Stem pressing $25 and rebuild which could cost me $100 of the highside and $25 on the low if they were advertised correctly. That may be wishful thinking since the forks have so many components that could be damaged. But I have always been a chance taker.
Wait for the parts and be patient, also, don't count out older KX forks because you may get a set of well cared for older forks cheaper than an abused newer set that will cost you more money.
