Hi all,
Joined the site a while ago when i purchased a $200 basket case 86.
Finally got it rebuilt and rideable, amazed at how much of a beating it took.
Previous owner rode it until the poor thing died and the rod was so loose it was rubbing the cases.
I cant imagine how they rode it at all near the end...every bearing/bushing was almost dust.
Great info and expertise on this site and it has been a great help.
I had an 89 KDX years ago and had to sell it to pay for tires for a roadrace bike to finish a season.
Been out of dirt-riding since then but recently found a $50 XR100 and got the bug again.
Starting out with all stock parts this year but have plans to do some upgrades as I learn to ride again.

Re: Another 86 back from the DEAD
Unfortunately no pics to share, I had some on my phone of the truck ride home and tear-down but have apparently lost them.
Imagine a KDX that was beaten until it just couldn't start anymore and left outside for years under a tarp and you get and idea.
The guy on CL told me it turned over but you should have heard it...I believe if it would have fired he would have revved it to show me.
I'd snap some photos but right now I have it semi apart again.
Trying to install a cover that is too damn small and am trying various methods to get some color back into the tank.
New plastics are in the future but it still needs other essential things before it is pretty.
I'm still working my way through the levers, pegs, suspension, etc...
I will see if I can find the photos and put my rebuild experiences in the Air-Cooled section.
