Hello all,
You may remember me from http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 8&start=20. I am newbie with a few training lessons on the trainer bike. Now on Monday I will train with my own KDX 220. Its my first time riding the bike since I bought it on April 27.
I completed the top end and replaced the back tires last week. The mechanic performed the work.
What are some things to check before and after riding the KDX 220? Does the service manual state this already.
Thank you
Maintenance/Check before Riding.

Re: Maintenance/Check before Riding.
tire pressure
depending on where you ride you may want to go up or down but you always want something in there
fluids level, oil, coolant, gas, brake fluid
make sure the chain tension is right and the chain is properly lubricated
check the airfliter, make sure it is clean and nicely oiled
check the brake and clutch levers for proper operation and play
and something I learned the hard way, make sure all the hose clamps are tight, I once did a top end job and fried the piston on the second or third ride since I failed to properly tighten the coolant hose clamps
one popped of, all coolant gushed out and the bike ran hot
think that is most of it, I want to say this has been covered before, ill see if I can find it

I bought a bike stand, but the bike is heavy to put on it.
Do you leave your bike sitting on a bike stand when at home and not riding?

Re: Maintenance/Check before Riding.
nope, both my KDXs have kickstands so they rest on there when im not riding them
I do have a stand I picked up at harbor freight I use to work on the bike

works great when you need to have one of the wheels off the ground

I always leave my bike up on a stand when I'm not riding. Keeps the weight off the suspension components.

Re: Maintenance/Check before Riding.
Use a stiff plastic brush to clean the chain and a sprockets clear of dirt after every ride as well. Get some good chain lube and lube the chain. That will keep the driveline in good shape. You'd be surprised how neglected the chain is, especially by folks just learning about bikes and maintenance.
