Kdx220 lowering kit
Hey guys I have a Kouba links kit on my 2003 kdx 220 and was on the bike when I bought it. It is the kdx3 model and lowers it about three inches and I want to put it back to the originally hight does anyone want to Trade me for an original link. They are american made and are about 80 bucks and I don't want the money just original rear suspension hight. Fits all kdx200/220 95 and up. Thanks.

The center distance of the stock links is, if I remember correctly, 112.5 mm. It shouldn't be too difficult to make up a pair out of 1/4" stainless steel plate, or carbon steel if you don't mind. I made mine out of stainless. Just be sure to accurately bore the holes at each end to size. Also, fasten the 2 blanks together and bore them both together so the center distances are exactly the same for both links.
Also, check what your fork tube height is in the triple trees. When lowering links are used, it is recommended that the fork tubes are also raised to restore the 26.5 degree rake angle. If lowering links are replaced with stock, and the fork tubes are not also lowered, your rake angle will be less.

Re: Kdx220 lowering kit
I'm in the exact same boat. Didn't mind it till I went on an MX track and was bottoming out the rear suspension... and after looking the KDX3 links have a max load of 130lbs, I'm a bit of 200 with gear.
I've bought some 6mm steel and a 15mm drill bit, but I didn't measure and thought 150mm would be plenty of length... but I have to go back and get 155mm :/ Lucky it was only $3

Stock dog bone links turn up on eBay quite frequently. They are easy to identify because they have the center distance, 112.5 (mm) stamped into them.

Re: Kdx220 lowering kit
Lucky man speeder117.
I spent a few hours today on my home-made ones. Drilling 15mm holes through 6mm steel plate it quite a task, then quite some time was spent cutting and grinding it pieces down so that they fit well and looked ok. Finally got it all together and went for a quick ride up and down the street, made a huge difference even just to the way the power is delivered through the suspension (more wheelie-prone).

Re: Kdx220 lowering kit
Went for a longer, proper ride today to test it out on jumps. Now mine is slightly lower than standard (About 113.5 distance, relatively no difference), and compared to the Koubalink KDX3 which is a 2.something inch lower... massive difference (I'm 200lbs and 6'1". Heaps nicer and more controllable over jumps, MUCH smoother landing... DEFINITELY more wheelie prone unless my bike gained a few HP somehow.speeder117 wrote:Sweet I love my weelies
