After a long weekend, I had to get into the shop to DO something! I have been mulling this idea over for a couple of weeks and want a way to carry my KDX without having to put it in the bed of my truck.
Here goes!
I used some metal channel I've had laying around and some old truck running board brackets to hold the channel to my hitch basket. It's very secure and much easier to load then unloading everything in my truck bed!

cheap, ingenuous, cheap and simple
oh, and cheap, it has my seal of approval (though i could see you added extra bracing between the channel and the part that slides into the receiver)

Great idea. I looked at one of those baskets last week with the same thing in mind. I think I'd add some reinforcement between the top and bottom pieces of square tubing, right below your tires. Those baskets aren't usually over-engineered. On a long trip or rough roads, I'd be afraid of the top piece bending down, and allowing the straps to loosen.

Good call on the reinforcement; you can never be too careful. I know I'd hate to look in my rearview mirror to see my KDX bouncing along behind my truck!
