1987 KDX200
Hey Guys,
Recently joined up as this seems to be the best resource for KDX's.
Here's some pics of the old girl.
Unfortunately after one large stack in particular its no longer in as nice condition, but some new plastics should fix that.

Nope, its a C3 (88).
It was one of the race bikes done up by BTX down here in melbourne. (Murray Tainton, Team Green spec bike.)
No idea on the silencer sorry, will take a closer look when I get it back from the shop.

Re: 1988 KDX200
Was... front headlight smashed to pieces. :(
In the process of getting new plastics for it amongst some other things.
So much fun to ride than the newer bikes.
... And such a comfy seat :)
oh yeah, anyone know where to get the handguards from?
All the ones I can find mount on the outside of the barkbusters.

Rocky mountain atv has tusk hand guards that mount to front of bark busters. They offer them just the front and ones that cover front and side.

if your going to RMATV anyway you may want to consider getting a knobbie tire to replace that slick you got on there now

What you have are the original handguards and someone has just cut a hole in them to accomodate the bark busters.oh yeah, anyone know where to get the handguards from?

The rest of the plastic looks great. I would just replace the headlight bucket and call it a day. If you want to change the look there are all sorts of headlight buckets available. Here's a couple of pics of my C2 with the bucket from my old XR350:Unfortunately after one large stack in particular its no longer in as nice condition, but some new plastics should fix that.

Yeah I'll just change the headlight for now, but still get a whole kit.
The rest is scratched up a it and there was already some cracks from previous crashes.
Those were the original tires and they were lots of fun, have since got some new rubber though.
As for the hand guards will need to source them from Australia, costs more for shipping than the actual parts!
If need be ill source parts from all over and get them shipped over together.
Thats a very nice looking C2 Goofaroo, very clean :)

What does a 1986 model look like in AUS, as yours looks just like a USA 1986 model?

Not sure, as these were bought in from the US.
I've had it to two different shops and straight away they have said an 88 model.
The old man has had it since new and has the original receipt somewhere.
The actual manual though that was given with the bike was for a 89.
All the parts that I look up for it as an 88 C3 are the except the decals, which were custom on this anyway.
Tell me what to look for and I will find out for you though :)

Ouch, just had a call from the guys at the shop and apparently needs a top end rebuild.
They said it would cost about $400 just for the re-coating of the cylinder. *sigh*

Re: 1988 KDX200
400 seems steep for a recoat (counting in USD here) BUT if that includes a new wiseco top end kit, then yeah, it does sound about right
if I were you I would contact langcourt, theey have locations in the US, Europe, new Zealand and their home of England
one of them might be able to do it for you and not kill you on shipping

Thanks, I'll await to hear their full quote to see what it actually includes.
I'll get in touch with langcourt and see if they can give us a quote.

Do bikes in AUS have a frame number or VIN?
Does the swingarm have a grease fitting on each side? 1988 does not. 1986 has a steel braided line.

Re: 1988 KDX200
Frame number is DX200C-004036
Will have a full report tonight on what needs to be done, but apparently the recoat is going to cost $520 to ship it to the US and back.

Re: 1988 KDX200
Ok, Turns out its an 87'
Both close :)
Turns out the engine needs a complete rebuild.
This is what I've been quoted.
Heres is the damage
The seals have dried up and cracked and is now leaking gearbox oil into the motor
Looks like I wont be riding for a while :(

I don't have my model identification guide handy, but I say 1986 with a frame number that low.
Those prices seem ridiculous, even in AUS dollars.
Are there no replaters in AUS? Did anyone see a thread from "Byte" on a repater in AUS?

Re: 1988 KDX200
I think the 1988 KDX has an iron cylinder instead of a nicasil so you can hone your cylinder or cut it to the next piston size instead of replate it.
