Re: Transmission Poll
I just switched to AFT an hour ago and I love it so far. Smoother shifts! However I did find out the owner before I stripped the drain plug hole :/ So soon enough I will be draining the oil again. So before I put in new oil I was wondering what you guys were running and what brands!

Re: Transmission Poll
It would never occur to me to use ATF or 10w40/10w30 "motor oil" so I can't say anything about that. I can however tell you that I have never used anything except oil designed for a 2 stroke transmission and I have never had any failures and the clutch action has never been a problem. My trannies have always been quiet and smooth shifting. How do yall like the 80/85 wt oil? Hows it feel and how long have you been running it?
I used nothing but Spectro for years and years but I can't find it around here anymore. That would be my first choice if it was available but I haven't had any problems with the Hondaline or Silkoline.None of the above i use gold spectro 80 or 85 wt

Transmission Poll
Probably the best thing I had ever used was the Spectro 80? gear oil that I found in the back of my oil shelf from about 15 years ago. But I haven't been able to find it again. And after I changed the oil I tossed the bottle so I can't even remember what variation it was exactly. But I have had good luck with ATF type F. It doesn't seem to last as long as the Spectro did but the other Spectro oils I have used didn't last any longer then the ATF. I have found that if they label it as any type of "Gear saver" or "Clutch saver" oil it isn't worth a sh!t and cost WAY too much for a one ride oil.

Re: Transmission Poll
Shell Rotella 15w-40 us a great low cost oil, and is JASO-MA approved for wet clutches.
ATF is a good choice as well, it is designed for a box full of gears and clutches.

Re: Transmission Poll
I'm finding this a little confusing.
Every manual I have calls for 10W-30 or 10W-40. Doesn't specify "engine oil" or
'transmission fluid"
I see trans. fluid comes in 10W-30, 10W-40 and 80W/85W. I see Type F trans. fluid on the shelf, but with no weight specified.
Hence the confusion.
My local Kawi dealer, who races the KDX, sold me Pro Honda HP Trans SAE 80W/85W for my 2005 KDX 200

Re: Transmission Poll
Gear oil, 80 weight is equivalent to 10w-40, according to Bel-ray.

Re: Transmission Poll
Amsoil oil 10w40 dirt bike oil for the trans.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
