flywheel for 1984 KDX 250

Post by warlocktoy68 »

hey - just picked up a 1984 KDX 250 for my son. Engine needs a rebuild but other than that - the bike is in good shape. The big problem is that the flywheel is busted. One of the magnets came loose and shattered. Those flywheels are VERY hard to find. Does anyone know if a flywheel off any other year will fit? Or anywhere I could look to find one? Searched all over the internet but no luck. Thanks

That is a hard part...Kawasaki only lists that part# for the 83-84 KDX250, When they revived the KDX250 in 91 it had the newer style stator plate which uses different flywheel). Though the part# for the 83-85 KDX200 is different, may be a suitable sub. Or you may have better luck fitting a 91-94 flywheel AND stator if the crank tapers match. Likely the cheapest way you'll find one is to find another 83-84 KDX250 :?

It's a common problem on 80s models, so the market is kind of tapped out on old Kawasaki magnetos. Fredette and some others offer flywheel rebuilding. I don't know if he does the '84 250, but is worth a call
