1 3/8" handlebars
Yep I made a mistake x2.
I bought some Easton bars off motosportoutlet.com thinking oversize bars would be 1 1/8" but they are 1 3/8"
Problem is no one makes handguard mounts for that bar. The only thing I can think of is using a set of the mounts that bolt to the triple clamps.
Thinking I could make a set myself there really isnt much to them.
Anyone run into this yet?

Re: 1 3/8" handlebars
seems simple enough
the part that attaches to the outside of the bars is often nothing more then a peice of tube that is just a little smaller then the inner diameter of the bars cut at an angle
a bolt runs through it with a nut on the inside so that when you tighten it the angled cut overlaps, so to speak
all you need to make that is a piece of tube that fits inside the bar and a hacksaw
the part that mounts to the inside might be trickier
i would start off with one made for a 1 1/8 bar and see if there is enough material to mill it out to 1 3/8
i would imagine the real headache would be the perches

You do realize the Fat bars are still 7/8 by the controls. Don't you...
But other then that the drilling out the inner mounts might work. Or if you are looking to get new guards then you could look at the Circa (I think I spelled that wrong). You can order them with the mounts that go to the bar clamp. But then you will need to get bar clamps to fit the way oversized bars too. Might be better off getting some different bars by the time your done.

yes, but i remember seeing some inner mounts that had the 1 1/8 center hole
here is a good picture of one (the right hand one)

having said that, there isnt a whole lot of meat there to trim out another 1/4 inch

Re: 1 3/8" handlebars
I got the same ones probably and was kinda bummed that my moose guards didn't mount up. I rode them anyways and can vouch for their toughness, I had a get off that cracked my left radiator and shroud, tore up my seat, dented and bent my front rim, bent my break lever and cracked my tailpipe. The bars didn't bend but the mounts bent so bad it was crazy.

Do they come with adapters to mount them to the triple clamp?

Re: 1 3/8" handlebars
Yes and no they were "universal" mounts that actually bolt into my 7/8" (2002) stock mounts with 0 degree offset. for $30 I couldn't pass them up! They did lift the bars up higher which was perfect. They offer other kits that will fit kx models for those who have converted their front ends.

i hate to bring this back up, but i just installed a pro taper bar on my KDX and there is no way my inner mounts will wrap around itrbates9 wrote:

Re: 1 3/8" handlebars
? Are they 11/8 bars? If so they should be larger then 7/8 at the inner mounts. Thats where the 11/8" part comes in.diymirage wrote:i hate to bring this back up, but i just installed a pro taper bar on my KDX and there is no way my inner mounts will wrap around itrbates9 wrote:

Re: 1 3/8" handlebars
yeah they are, and i get all that
but i thought that you were implying the mounts from a 7/8th should still fit
i guess i misunderstood
for what its worth, i took my inner mounts to work today and milled them out to a 1 inch bore and they fit perfectly
