How much trans oil?

Post by mustangdan »

Hey new to the forum probably an easy question for you guys. I have an 03 kdx the motor says .70 liters but put .40 in and its on the top line of the sight glass. I made sure it drained out well so do I ignore the sight glass and put the .70 liters in anyway?

It should take the .7. A lot of people even put in a quart. If you know the transmission was empty then it should take at least .7. When you drained the transmission was the bike leaning on the kick stand? or did you have the bike up on a center stand?

I leaned the bike both ways I took it for a quick spin to get the oil nice and warm. So I should go by the sight glass then?

When you drain the oil you want to have the bike straight up, not leaning. That could be why it didn't take all the oil? But yeah if it is at the top of the site glass then you should be good.

Did you start the bike up, ride it around and check the level again ? It usually drops down a lot once the oil gets into all of the passages.

With the drain plug in just about the center of the engine you think that the bike should be leaned to the side to drain the oil?

is a good point, a fair bit dissapears once youve run it up after initially filling
