Well.... Bike is in a lot rougher shape than the pictures reveal. Both forks are in serious need of service. Transmission and clutch were good. Other than those two, everything else needed attention, either immediately or before next season.
Lastly, he wasn't reasonable on price negotiating. So I didn't purchase this one.
Im bummed, but I think I made the right decision.

You aren't the first to try a "one piece at a time" build.

I have a pretty good relationship with a local motorcycle shop.
The owner knew I was fond of KDX'es
A customer left a 220 there that had been siezed and opted not to fix it. The shop owner sold it to me for $97

Hey guys, got a question about this bike.
http://denver.craigslist.org/mcy/3532651002.html
What does he mean by oil change every 16 hours? Pre mix two strokes get oil changes? I'm attempting to secure some funds by working a lot of OT at work, and although this is WAY beyond my budgetary limit.... Its already got most everything I'd like to add to the bike, sans kx forks.

Some people feel the need to change the oil after every ride, some do it every year. Changing the oil too much isn't a bad thing. It comes down to how you ride and what type of oil you use that determines how often the oil should be changed.

Found an 03. Definitely want to buy it. I think I've run this thread into the dirt. I'll start a fresh one with a proper subject line.

Re: Buying a KDX... one piece at a time
So this is what I am doing as well...and I must have THE hookup... We got three frames (2x 95+), 2 H motors (1 needs a cylinder), 3 carbs, 1 99 KX-250 frame (w/ shock and fork), a complete, running 89 w/ a 240 big bore in it, some extra wheels, tires, 2x swing arms, too many junk tires to count, a couple sets of brakes, 2x good radiators, and a whole bucket of misc stuff over the last 6 months...total investment of $1500 so far.
I'll start posting build pics as we get to them. My buddy is building a KX hybrid with the 240. I'm building a 95+ KDX with a 200 (gonna go RB mods), and we're gonna put together a stock '89 for the lady.
