Looking good! I'm thinking about trying some of that bed liner stuff on my frame where my boots rub. Please keep us updated on how it holds up.

I just got a call from the powder coat dude. It's ready for pickup! I'll take pictures later after I get it home.
As for the truck bed liner, I think it will be fine for areas with occasional contact but for constant rubbing areas like the frame where the boots hit I doubt it would last very long. Maybe rhino liner or one of those expensive brands would work but I doubt these cheap rustoleum rattle cans would do the trick. (unless you don't mind touch up work)

The powder coating didn't come out as good as I would have liked... not horrible, but I've never powder coated and think I could do a better job. The guy also wanted $300 after we had agreed on $250 and I had to show him the email for him to believe me... I hate Fitchburg...
The guy didn't tape off or block a single thread or even the head tube.
Did most of you guys extend the wire harness to do a cleaner job? After I mounted the coil I was a little confused how the routing would go.
The to do list includes: lengthen the harness to tuck onto the frame better, grind down my kdx cable end to fit the kx throttle assembly, and melt the tank to clear the inlet bolt (barely hits).

Why not just use the KDX throttle assembly?

I may use it, but it's pretty worn out. I didn't know it was a diff size cable end, ebecks build said he just used kdx cables with kx controls so I figured it would mate right up. Either way I'll figure something out because I WILL ride this weekend!!

Check and see if you can use the KX cable. I think it will fit the KDX carb and be a better length.
The KX throttle housing is a better mechanism with a slightly shorter twist than the KDX one.

My kx cable was pretty shot I think I threw it out
I got some stickers for the swing arm in the mail today. I ordered them from some dude on eBay and asked him to make kx220. It's kind of strange that he made 3 instead of 2 or 4.

Interesting. What seller did those for you? I'm looking to have some custom stickers made myself.Faint333 wrote:My kx cable was pretty shot I think I threw it out

Factory EFX was the sellers name. Message him and tell him what you want and he will quote you for the job. Then he has instructions for payment on custom orders.

Ran the motor some tonight. I don't have the chain or plastics/seat on and I still have to melt the tank and make sure everything is tight. I'll get pics up tmrw of it pretty much finished!

Apparently I lost the clip that holds the throttle cable into the carb cap, is that clip even needed? shouldn't the tension in the cable be enough to hold it tight?

Fumbling my way through a hybrid build
Some updated pics from this morning. I took it for a test run down the street and love how the front wheel comes up, the 125 could never do that, this bike has some nut!
The kick lever is a hybrid from my '02 KX 125 (I was able to sell the motor without a kickstart) mated to the kick boss of an '01 KX 250.
I lost my damn carb breather hoses somehow!
I noticed after placing the rubber tank pads on the clearance issue is gone from the coolant inlet bolt. I also removed the second gasket in the exhaust because it was spewing a little and red siliconed the pipe in, somehow the clearance issue I had with the frame rail resolved itself!?!?
Things to do.. get an inline fuel filter, get carb breather hoses, glue the rubber tank pads onto the frame, and put new brake pads on. I have them but I was too excited/lazy to put them on before testing the bike out.
I'll run the KDX 18" when I get new tires but for now I'll just stick with the KX 19".
I'm running 13/49 gearing and it seems like it will be great for the woods.
The only thing I can say that sucks about completing this bike is that my riding buddies WR450 is having valve issues and needs to be torn down. I can't go on any good rides in the immediate future

Well done. It looks fantastic.
I had one of those KX250/KX125 hybrid kickers on my hybrid for all of one ride. The boss nut backed off and the whole thing was lost. I'm still burned up about that.
