Rebuild gasket set
I,m looking to buy a complete engine rebuild gasket set. Before I go and buy the cheapest set on on E-Bay, I would welcome any input on quality and /or things to look out for.
Also am also planning to send my head into RB, and need to send Ron a solder sample per his site instructions. I need to know if I compress the head gasket for this test if I can reuse it. Or do I need to buy an extra?

Consider these guys for the gasket set---they are pretty good vendors.

I'm a firm believer in factory gaskets. If you choose to go with one of the kits on the market I suggest, at minimum, getting factory head and base gaskets.

It is mainly piece of mind but it also the consistent quality that is important to me. With aftermarket you never know if the basket gasket is the proper density or thickness as the factory piece. Same kind of applies to the head gasket as well in the quality of the metal. I have an aftermarket gasket set for the 200 but I have all factory seals and factory head and base gaskets.

Re: Rebuild gasket set
You don't have to send the solder sample pieces to Ron for a KDX head. And no, once the gasket has been compressed you can't reuse it.kawabunga wrote:Also am also planning to send my head into RB, and need to send Ron a solder sample per his site instructions. some reuse the old head gasket after cleaning them and coating them with copper spray I believe. Never heard of anyone having issue with that. would i do it myself? nope cuz I like the piece of mind when I use a new kit.

Cometic makes a good gasket kit. At least, I've never had any problems.
I'd re-use a head gasket if I HAD to. I can't see trying to use re-use a base gasket. They usually fall apart.
Ron does not need the solder bit for the KDX. Ask him.

pattern gasket kits are fine but i would use a genuine kawasaki item for the head as they have (they did on my 220) a tacky coating which super seals the head..i also use a light coating of grease on base gaskets & inlet/reed gaskets, for the exhaust side a small amount of hi temp silicone (the type used on boiler joints) works good, seals nice is flexible & prevents the exhaust from blowing & dripping sticky 2 stoke oil around the pipe & frame!
