dang- busted rib again!

Post by KarlP »

Got out of sorts, hit a tree hard with my right shoulder. Hard enough to leave a bruise pattern that matches my chest protector.
Feels like I broke a rib middle right side of my back, or at least separated it.

Damn, damn, damn.

1st enduro in 4 weeks, no way I'll make it.

Getting too old to try to ride like a young guy.

you might make it. I broke 2 of mine, in my back too, and riding really wasn't that bad. Loading the bike in the truck was a different story, so was sleeping and sneezing.

After a week of pain I finally made a Doctors appointment because things were not getting better. Monday 2/11/08 I went to see the Doctor and she said go to the Hospital right now, call your wife or we'll call an ambulance. I had a partially collapsed right lung.

They stuck a tube in my chest about 2" below my right collarbone and hooked it up to a suction thingy. Immediate relief. I was in the hospital for 5 days, got out 2/15. Feel right as rain, now.

The moral of the story is that if you think you collapsed a lung, it is likely that you did.

I think I'm getting over a broken rib now. A few weeks back I landed on my left side coming off a jump. I had a golf ball size spot next to my spine that killed when I sneezed or slept on my side. Also had pain under my armpit area. It took 3 weeks (so far) just to be able to sneeze. I'm breathing fine, I guess, and did 4 motos last weekend.

Hmm, this seems to be a common thing. A couple of weeks ago I caught a tree inside my handguard and went over the front, landed on my chest, forearms, face, etc.. Knocked the wind out of me a little at the time but got up, no real pain, got on my bike and rode the last 3 miles or so to the truck.
Next morning it felt like a spear through my chest about mid point verticle and an inch out from my sternum, straight through to the back. Hurt to breath, agony to blow my nose or cough, sneeze would take me to my knees.
Been almost 2 weeks now, still hurts a little (more than a little in the morning) but getting better all the time. Was a big bruise a couple of inches on down my chest that didn't hurt and not a mark where the spear was stuck through. Strange.
Hope you all get better soon. As the saying goes, "I feel your pain".
