Tail Bone Surgery?

Post by jc7622 »

Has anyone here had the surgery to remover their tail bone? Mine has been hurting for about three months and is slowly getting worse. The doc on one of the other sites suggested just getting it removed. It sounds like a good idea except for the six weeks of recovery.

How'd you hurt it? Will having it removed keep you from doing/enjoying anything you do now?

I must have hurt it when I had a get-off. From what I have heard once it is removed it won't be a problem anymore - because it won't be there.

I thought you needed your tailbone... to protect your spinal cord.

I guess not.

Wasn't there a movie with Jason Alexander where he could actually wag his tail bone?

"In rare cases, the surgeon can perform a coccygectomy, or removal of the tailbone. The surgery can increase the risk of a perineal hernia (weakened pelvic muscles supporting the rectum) later in life, but otherwise is considered effective and relatively low risk."

Hmmm..... nah!

I may look into having my tail bone removed when I go in to get my artificial appendix put in. I've been putting it off far too long.

It may not be your tail bone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilonidal_cyst
I had this removed when I was 16 after taking a standup jet ski on the tailbone.. A guy I rode with for years had his removed at 35.. Its pretty common and injuries in that area can spur it on.
