Wipe-out time
Well I had my first wipe-out. I'm fine, just scrapped my arm and jammed my thumb real good. Didn't keep me down. Picked up the bike and rode on.
I was climbing my usual hill and reached the top. At the top is another little bump after the hill levels out. I hit this bump and the front end flew up wheelie-style while I was a little airborne.
I chickened out and jumped off in a dive. I landed on my side in the tall grass.
The handle bars are a little bent, barely noticeable.
I should have stayed on the bike I think. I stupidly may have been sitting on the saddle when I hit the bump too. I can't remember though because it all was such a rush. Even the wipe-out was fun I must admit. I do have a bad habit of sitting down and that was my first lesson in that mistake.

Re: Wipe-out time
If you can ditch the bike in a crash, it's almost always better to do so. Better than having it come back on top of you! Glad you're ok!

No, I wasn't hurt. I don't mean to belittle anybody's serious injuries or bike damages.
So, duly noted, eject from bike if possible. Thanks.
I'm inexperienced. I'm sure a better rider would have been able to hold on and control out of that. I bailed.
Hopefully lesson learned.

Wipe-out time
Two things,
1, How old are you? I ask this because if you are young enough then you will heal easier and can try to ride it out more.
2, When you bail, try like hell to land on your feet. Step off, don't dive off.
Glad your not hurt. But you never learn better then from mistakes.

I'm 44, but I'm in good shape. I heal good. It's the bravery thing that starts to go away after say age 36 or so. That's no joke.rbates9 wrote:Two things,

You find you get a little more cautious as the years go by. LOL.

Re: Wipe-out time
I watched a colleague of mine try to run a 400 Honda Foreman up hill that was crazy. Probably 150 ft 200 ft very steep.Robbie wrote:Anytime you can bail do so! I had a 300 ex 4 wheeler roll over me several times going down a mountain. Damn thing just keep coming back for more. Lol
He almost made it to the top(15 ft more to go) and she bogged down on him. He started flipping backwards, we were on the bottom watching.
I almost crapped. He looked like a tiny dot way up there.
He jumped off just in time. We watched that 4 wheeler do about 100 somersaults back down. The last hop it took, she bounded 50 ft through the air and crashed into some tall brush. Total wreck. Scrap.
But watching him climb that thing was amazing. We were laughing so hard...until he bailed.
I'm glad you made it out Robbie.

Like the old dirtbiker saying goes : all I remember is dirt sky dirt sky dirt sky ambulance
When aproaching a jump the worst thing you can do is chicken out at the last moment and let off the gas
The front end wil nose dive and the rear will kick up
as usual, best course of action is to stay on the gas (open eyes is optional)

Re: Wipe-out time
Best thing you can learn is safely crashing 90% of the time you can tell if youre going down doing it safely is hard but definitely a must have skill! Just try not to practice it too much and by safely I mean with getting off with the least amount of injury to crash ratio if that makes sense
