Powervalve shaft o ring
Hi guys
I took apart my top end for the first time myself in the weekend. PV had a decent amount of carbon build up but dont think it was terrible given when it might have last been serviced. I had the kawi dealership do my top end with OEM parts about 50 hours ago, although I dont think they would have cleaned the PV.
I noticed that there was no o-ring on the right subvalve shaft where the parts diagram indicates "packing". I am confident i didn't lose it as it wouldnt have have just slipped off.
I honestly had not noticed any issues with performance, and was wondering if you know what purpose this o-ring plays? Once the lockdown is over, i will probably just get one on order but curious if any of you have any experience with it.
Cheers

Not having that shaft seal will allow an air leak into your intake. This can throw A/F ratios off and make it very difficult to properly jet the carb. I'm not sure how much that one seal can affect performance, but large air leaks can even lean your mixture to the point of engine seizure. This is why many consider it important to do engine leak-down tests.

Thanks Eric. It definitely isn't running lean. I'll try pick u an o-ring anyway.

Sorry KDXGarage, but to confirm, that's not the oil seal where the main shaft goes in, but you're saying its goes on the subvalve shaft? So a seal not an o-ring? Cheers

It’s squared off like an oil seal would be. At first glance being so small it looks like a oring. You were on the right track when you called it packing. For whatever reason that’s what they call it.

Great thanks John, that clarifies it for me. Whoever rebuilt my engine last must have lost it.
