Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
In my efforts to make the dual sport a little more street friendly, I ordered a 14T front sprocket for a little higher top speed. When I put it on, I can't see how it can fit. At first, I cleaned out a tiny bit of rubber in the chain slider and thought it would work. Then I put on the case saver... I'd say its a little too close.
Wanted to see if anyone else was running a 14, and if so, what did you do make it work? I figure a custom case saver would do it... but the time and cost of that would probably be about the same as ordering a 44T for the rear (has a stock 47 on it now), and have nearly the same gear ratio.
Hmmm... thinking about this though, I think I have a piece of 3/8" aluminum at home. I could clamp the stock case saver to that, drill the holes in the right spot. Then make a cardboard template, and cut one out

I'm not sure I understand what is going on and your pictures aren't showing up.
I run, or have run, 14s on both my E and H series bikes and they fit fine.

New case saver would be my choice. My 2005 KX250 has an option for a different case saver for a one tooth larger front sprocket.
Look at how small the rear sprocket is on the blue KDX SR. That should give you an idea on street riding.

I would also purchase a new case saver, or modify the original.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Re: Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
I don't want to modify the original because I am going to end up with a couple of super thin sections that I won't trust.
6Riders - a 14T fit on your H with the stock case saver? Do you run 520 chain/sprockets on it?
Buying a new case saver was an initial thought also... I couldn't find one when I originally searching, but came across this one: http://shoptoparracing.com/casesaver-co ... 95-kdx250/
It states that it will work for:
94-04 KX250
95-05 KDX200
97-05 KDX220
91-95 KDX250
I don't like that the one in the link covers the sprocket (to hold in mud). I just looked and the 05 KX250 has an optional case saver for a larger (14T) front sprocket (thanks Jason). Maybe I'll just order up an OEM one of those (less than 9 bucks on partzilla)
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/kawas ... ne-cover-s
May also make one tho... I found a piece of 3/8" aluminum in the garage last night. As soon as I have an hour or two mess with it, I'll let you know what I end up doing.
Thanks for the input thus far

Yes, a 14t fit. I'm running a 520 X-ring chain.

Re: Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
I may be able to do some measuring.
I don't like the looks of the gap on that stock one. DO NOT run that in Gawgia red, clay mud.

Man, I can't believe it fit without issue on one bike, and not on another I wonder what could be different? Are you able to see my pictures to see if your fitment was similar? (they are hosted thru this website, so I didn't think there would be an issue?)
And yea Jason, definitely won't be running it all, specially not in some gawgia clay

Re: Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
I will try to get some measurements today.
Clay is horrible. I remember years ago riding on the clay around here. It had packed up so much between the sides of the tire and the insides of my '87 KDX200 forks that it was slowing me down a good bit, and this was going down a quite steep hill!

NO GO.
I measured my 2005 KX250 and 1997 KDX220R with the aerospace industry standard calipers (Pittsburgh ). I measured the distance from the center of one bolt head to the center of the other bolt head. I got about 50 mm on the 2005 KX250 and 73.4 mm on the KDX220R.

Re: Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
Wow, I would say that is a no-go. Thanks for checking that out, I appreciate it! I hate some heavy clay too, never been in anything that bad though. One place we ride in Ohio, the mud dries on super heavy and like concrete, take forever to get off. Its weird that one place is the only place I ever encounter that.
I made a nice cardboard template last night for a little bigger case saver. Going to try to get it cut out of some 3/8" aluminum today.

Re: Anyone Running a 14T Front Sprocket?
Well, I got a new one cut out and its working really nicely. It was really nice until someone "did me a favor" and tried rounding the edges on it, now it looks like a beaver chewed on it. I can use it for now, but its not pretty. When I have time to cut a new one out, I'll post up some pics.

That's strange it don't fit without issue. I run 14T JT with stock case saver, oring chain and a 45t rear. Great on the road and still singletracks just fine. 05 220.
