Plug for Odometer hole in front wheel

Post by Tyl3r »

I was looking around the garage for something that would fit nicely in the hole in the front wheel where my odometer cable use to go. I happened to find that one of those plastic bar ends that came on a set of Pro Taper bars fits perfectly in that hole (just need to trim its length slightly). I was trying to avoid filling it with silicone because I planned to sell that wheel at some point. Just wanted to share if anyone else was wondering. I recall an aftermarket company use to make a plug specifically for this hole, but I wasn't able to find it

You might bed it in place with a little RTV as a sealant around the plug and to help hold it in place. There’s a lot of harsh motion and jarring going on down there.

Yea, you are probably right, I think I will. That is definitely better than filling the hole with silicone...like I have seen done before :snooty:

Do you have the screw in there? I think the thing about the Ty Davis part was that not only did it have an o-ring, but it was shaped to be held in snug with the stock screw.

I "REALLY" wish he / they still made them. I shall now start a new thread crying about KDX parts that are not made any more.

Lol someone could probably really clean up on selling like 500 dollars worth of discontinued or new aftermarket KDX parts each year if they started a business  I’m sure you could draw one up and have it machined for 30 or 40 bucks for one.... but make 100 of em and you’d get them for like 2 dollars a piece. Is it worth it :hmm: I mean, I get why it’s hard to find aftermarket parts for these bikes, just sucks. There’s a few parts I drew up and wanted to get them made (for this thing and other junks I own) but couldn’t justify $100+ for something I couldn’t rig up for free or wayy cheaper lol

I think they were around $15 back when they were available. That was not much, in my opinion.
