Let's see your headlights

Post by Theducman »

So I ordered a headlight in February on eBay. A generic one from China, well it never came got a refund and now I still need a light. So, what do you have on your bikes? Would like a few pictures so see looks good. I was considering the polisport mmx.

Following.
I'm in the same boat I have an old faded acerbis on mine I'd like to replace. I've been looking at a ktm style light on amazon that I think would look real good.

Here is the Polisport MMX on my old '90 KDX200. It is now on my '98 220 but I don't have any good pics but can get one if needed.

Hey SS, On a side note did you ever have to send your WER stabilizer in for rework? Mine is acting up and evidently has an "old" style arm on it they have to replace.

My hybrid is running the Acerbis DHH (not the DOT version). It's passable for getting back to the truck in the dusk, but wouldn't want to be stuck too far out in the real dark with it. Does look nice tho.

I've got a 94 DR350R headlight on mine. I think it fits pretty well and it was free from a parts bike I had. Image

I haven't but it is due. Luckily mine has the updated arm already.

I just want a 4" round headlight, that looks like it's an old enduro glass hl,,,, but pushes 150 Watts from its LED

Remember, to run LEDs, you have to convert from AC to DC

Trail Tech and Cyclops make the round ones in HID, but they are pricey and twice as big as what you want. I always liked the old Suzuki PE headlight.

Mounting is super easy. Wiring is also pretty easy. Just remember not to wire both elements as you will have twice the draw on the stator. The MMX bulb (30 watt) is better than the best KDX bulb but still not great. I contacted Polisport about higher wattage bulbs and they said it could handle up to a 45 watt bulb but you would need a higher output stator to run it.

With that said, the MMX looks good but is only a get back to the truck/house light. I plan to upgrade to LED lighting so I can do some actual night riding.

I've run them on AC, it was fine but more flicker at lower rpm.

I've used a $5 Amazon regulator rectifier for the last year or so, it works great with them.

Here's a Chinese street fighter strap on one that I put on my DR, and on the KDX I have a 5 LED ss25 light bar above the number plate. It's from advmonster and is excellent. ImageImage

I put in a cheap Chinese quad rectifier to run dc. Works great.
