97 KDX 220 Top End

After selling my 97 KDX 200 I unfortunately only have 1 KDX to my name. I got lucky and picked up a 97 220 a few months back as it was in immaculate condition. The guy had put it into storage for about 7 years after riding it around his yard a few years. Anyhow, I have heard that the stock piston is a ticking time bomb and was wondering what piston and/or top end kit I should go with? I figure I'll just do a top end job and be safe. Thanks.

Ben

Buy a gasket kit and see what you have in there. It might not be stock. If it sat for 7 years, that means it didn't set for 14. It's a 21 year old bike.

Wiseco for my 220 and I like it. It quieted the bike down a lot. What I thought was KIPS noise was piston slap. The TUSK top end gasket set at Rocky Mountain is a winner in my opinion. Its about $16 and also includes the 2 pipe o rings and the brass ring that the pipe sits up against. I believe the only thing that gasket kit doesn't include is that tiny oring that's part of the right side KIPS valves. Kawasaki calls it "packing" on the parts list.

Any forged piston is a good replacement.
