Front brake fail. Replace/rebuild

Hey all, I have a 1999 KDX200 I have been rebuilding. She's running really nice but the front brake just went dead. I think the pads are pretty worn, but the brake lever just feels like its dead. I checked the fluid and basics like that.

Should I rebuild the brake? Or can and should I upgrade with something better? I would like to upgrade but I'm not sure of cost or what exactly I would buy that would be compatible.

Thanks in advance.

If it were mine I would rebuild. Rocky Mountain atvmc has all the parts in stock. For aftermarket the master cylinder and caliper rebuild kits are about $35 combined. Pads average another $35. New pad pin bolts are about $6 and the fluid. I would recommend a reverse bleeder. I got one off of eBay for about $20 and won't service the fluid without it now. Check out YouTube if you've never seen reverse bleeding. That or the vacuum style can save you a lot of cuss words

Hi. Welcome to kdxrider.

How worn are the pads? Is the fluid from 1998?

lol... I think everything was from 1999... its been sitting mostly. But I've had to replace a lot of things, and some things I've replaced cosmetically. Motor is great and seems to be in good condition, but honestly I don't have anything to compare it too so for me its like new!

Okay, so this is what I've decided to do...

I ordered rebuild kits for both the OEM master cylinder, and the Caliper...
I ordered new pads (front and rear), and a steel braided line.
I also ordered a Honda CR125 master cylinder off ebay... somebody told me they are much better and it was $30 bucks... so I'll give it a try.
Wish me luck! I haven't don't this before, but I'm sure I can figure it out with the help of youtube... I wanted this bike as a right of passage type of learning bike anyway.

Rebuild the cylinder and master, add the steel line and the stock brake will be fine.
