1995 KIPS Governor shaft

Post by hoosierKDX »

Over the weekend I completely broke down my bike to rebuild the top end, and looking at the diagram it shows a nut that goes on top of the governor shaft that holds the gear on. It says its a left handed thread, and that you need to secure it when torque it off so you don't break the pin down in the crankcase. Instead, mine is a bolt that holds this gear on, and its thread right handed and it screws down in this shaft. I can find a diagram anywhere that shows these parts I currently have on the bike... Does anybody know about this???

A picture of the area/parts would help greatly.

Looks to me somebody modded it. Do you think this will harm the performance? It looked like the KIPS was never
cleaned either. Also, how would I know if the pin was snapped off down in the crankcase without cracking it open?

If you can spin the governor shaft 360 degrees than the pin has snapped off.

I would suggest using red loctite on that bolt if you are going to keep that set-up.

No, I can't spin it all the way around. It has tension on it,and it will snap back in place. Ive owned the bike for two years and haven't had an issue with this part. Just thought it was weird that I couldn't find a diagram on it
