[Resolved] New FMF pipe with a dent ?

Post by ced64k »

I just received my new FMF Gnarly Woods from Midwest Discount Cycle and there is a dent. I'm not sure if it's normal or not because this place was not really exposed during shipping , it's on the inner part. What do you think ?

Thanks :)

That's a dent brother, there's a way to get dents out (via air pressure, and heat). But I would probably return it.

New FMF pipe with a dent ?

Is that right where the water pump sticks out? Maybe for clearance.

Thanks the picture Mario. The dent on mine is on the opposite side near the cylinder. No doubt invisible from the outside but I don't have my engine right now.

LOL it's little bit upper  It looks weird to me, I already contacted the seller. They have 3626 positive feedbacks for last year. But in the 14 negative feedback, there are 3 people complaining about dent on FMF pipe... I'll try to get a partial refund and fix that in a local shop. It should be an easy job.

Those last three pictures really help. Seems like a strange place to get a dent from shipping.

Anyway, I would fit it to your bike when you can to verify that it isnt there for a reason.

I tried to fit the pipe into the frame but without engine it's not 100% accurate  And... the dent seems to be exactly near the frame tube

Google *fmf exhaust pipe*. We use google.com here in the US.

It will show you a large volume of pictures for comparison.

Ride it with the dent, then have it repaired or replaced. If you can tell the difference in powerband, ridability, HP or torque, I will give you US $1,000. Just drive by land from your current location to where I am, and I will hand it over by hand.

But seriously, I doubt you will be able to tell while riding, if it is not made that way.

Don't look at some pipe made in fall of 1994 to compare to your recently made pipe.

They may have change at some point. I know several off my bikes have indentions around that area.

BRO!

WTF?!

It took me an honest 35 seconds of searching to find this.

Double enlarge the photo to see that the INDENTION is normal.

LOL!!

I am glad it is supposed to be that way. I am assuming you had it shipped from the USA to Belgium, so that would have REALLY sucked!!
