I've taken my motor off the bike just for the $#@& of it , so I'm checking the kips n everything seems to be there but my question is , is the kips gear on the top of the motor suppose to spin freely ?

Re: Kips question ???
If you turn the gear on the right side of the head, everything else should move. The gear should rotate about 90 degrees
With that said, there is a detent ball that sort of locks it in the closed position, so the first movement takes a little bit of force.
If you pull the cover on the left side, you can use a racket to turn it via the nut on that side.
If the shaft to the cases is still connected, you will also be fighting the spring pressure of the actuator inside the clutch cover.

Remove the detent ball and spring to check for binding.
Many of us leave it out as it makes the power much more linier.
