Hi everyone, I have purchased a '96 KDX 200 recently and trying to get the thing lined out. Compression is 160 as far as I can tell if I'm even doing it right? Kicking it over multiple times with the throttle wide open until the needle stops moving. The bike runs strong very fast. I have excess spooge as people call it on here coming from the silencer, I opened the service plug and drained almost a spray paint can lid full of this goo. I want to clean it out and my question is can I burn it out or what would you recommend to clean it thoroughly? By the way the PO was running a 50:1 gas mix and this thing smokes like crazy and could this be where I'm getting all the smoke from.

It is a common practice to re-pack the spark arrestor on any bike, but not sure if the factory kdx can be re-packed.

excessive smoke will not be coming from the spark arrestor, but if it's all plugged up it will cause the bike to run rich. Make sure air filter is clean, spark arrestor is clean, put new gas in it and jet. 50:1 is probably fine, but it will need to be re-jet. While you are re-jetting, you can clean the carb. Thats just basics. You should look at reeds, make sure crank seals aren't leaking, and no air leaks at the carb boot.

air filter is clean, not loosing oil in the crank case gas is new and I have changed the pre mix to 40:1, I have pulled the silencer off and removed the drain plug to let it drain how else would you clean the spark arrester? From what I have read this spark arrestor does not have packing so there would be no reason to repack.

I did have to repair a hole in the tank and I did fill it with water to find the crack but once I repaired it I let it sit for 2 days to dry out good. I did check my jets and I may have to run 50:1 as they are 48 pilot and 160 main with the stock needle 1174 and set on the third ring from top, which I was going to move to the second from top because it seemed to be rich in the middle and smoke the most there.

That is the stock jetting and is known to be overly rich.
I'm at 42 and 152; 2nd from the top, but you may want work your way down in increments.
Maybe try 45 and 155 first.

Can I burn or clean the factory silencer? If not burn what would I use to clean it out?

Ever see a spooged up Sparky spark arrestor or a goo filled pipe go in a campfire to get burnt out? You would NOT want that in an oven, and DEFINITELY NOT in a house. YouTube "Sea Foam smoke", then multiply by 80.

Best clean out for a stock silencer is getting jetting right, then run it HARD. Deep sand, high speeds, lots of WOT. You'll see crazy smoke once it's hot enough to get the spooge burning. Sometimes it will continue to billow and burn for a good amount of time after the bike is off. Kind of scary.

heat gun. It'll have that silencer smoking in no time. I clean my pipes out this way.

I've been thinking if going the heat gun route, but I am a little concerned the smoke plume will freak the neighbors out. Maybe I will go find an empty field or do it in my brother backyard while he's out...

Yes I am very rich, what ratio of fuel are running? After doing some research I want to run what the bike was originally supposed to run which is 32:1 I like the Idea of having the extra oil to lubricate
