new br8eix on the right, 6 minutes of riding on the left.

sputters, bogs, any throttle input that isn't acceleration = sputter

1/8 throttle = ppppppppputtttttaaa stutter
1/4 throttle = same
constant throttle= same

the only time it ruins well is acceleration
the second I'm not accelerating, complete ****.

Sounds like a rich slow jet circuit what's your jetting now?
Did you go to stock reeds or boyesen's to many pages to read back through.

it's much better now, with 38/138 and 2 turns out, middle clip on the needle, and most advanced timing mark.

still the 1/8-1/4 throttle and steady throttle inputs means lots of stuttering.

i have boyesen three petal reeds, stock cage plus three petals, and the boyesen Rad Valve in the bike.... but no intake for the stock cage/reeds... so I'm waiting on bouesen to ship the proper two petal reeds for the rad valve...

then i can try again.

there is no marking on the rad valve at all so i didn't realize it wasn't stock until yesterday.

it I can get rid of the stutter lll be rest to invest in grafting on the usd ktm forks :)

new reeds made a difference.
idle is adjustable, as is mixture screw.
changed to lucas semi synthetic at 40:1, and kips is oily but not thick splooge.

gets yesterday's plug after a thirty miles street ride.

today i tested a homemade airbox lid cover, with two 1 1/4" holes in it, which seals around the edges pretty good, and is convex, kind of like the same shape as the air filter. maybe dirt/debris will fall down, into the bottom of the airbox and out the drain hole, instead of dropping directly onto the airfilter now.

i believe the stock opening is 2 1/2", so my openings should be close to stock sizes. please correct me if i'm wrong.

and here are the first scratches on my >70 hour top end:

maybe I'll need a replate this fall ?

This was the first camp n ride weekend since the new carb. The folks @ NATRA were having a bridge building party, so we loaded the bikes and headed up to lend a hand, and get some primo single track seat time :)

Even though I rejetted just about perfect, I still carried all my jets and a spare carb, just in case.

They were not needed. The pwk35 with 152 / 45 jets, stock needle/slide, 2nd clip from the bottom, and 7/8 turn from bottom on the mixture screw at 1000ft elevation was.... perfect. Snappy responsiveness, GREAT top end power, and pulled stumps as required. I checked early on to make sure there wasnt any indication of a lean condition on the plug (jetting by feel is much much easier!) , and then checked it again after 72 miles of single track. Perfect mocha with a dark ring at the base of the insulator, and copper/mocha on the face of the threads. well, here you go, pictures:

and finally a PROPER vehicle for woods travel, rm2fitty !!! :-)

AFter the bridge building fun, we enjoyed 72 miles of single track over the weekend. The kdx spat off it's exhaust pipe at one point on a hillclimb, i guess I need more exhaust hangers again. yay.

The point of this expedition was to keep the tree huggers happy, and the sxs's out of the creeks. There were four crews that built 6 bridges (i think) in one saturday morning. If you have never been to West Point, Tennessee, you should go. They have a very extensive set of single track trails, most of which is 7/10, very little of it is impossible (9/10 or 10/10) and a great deal of which is flowing, fun, fast. Membership required, but it's only $60 a YEAR.

The sxs guys have swelled the ranks with their big noisy machines, and a few of them showed up to work saturday. It's not easy to share the same trails, so there are designated sxs trails, to prevent encroaching on the real stuff: singletrack.

I had a great time camping, building, and riding with my buddies from birmingham, al.

Oh, my new pwk35 performed flawlessly, jetting is perfect, and the plug was beautiful after a short 65 mph run to test wot jetting:

kdx220 will not idle, heavy smoke on decel ?

Post by ohgood »

unscientific test today, i dual sported the kdx (new 35mm carb) for 55 miles (gps tracked) and kept expecting to switch to reserve, but never needed it.

i had at least half a gallon left in the normal position, and about 7/10ths left in reserve. that means i burned about 1.7 gallons for 55 miles, or approximately 31 mpg !

pretty happy with this old bike. :-)

That sounds about right. I get around 30 to 35 mpg with my plated 220. Fmf desert stock muffler and factory jetting @ sea level 32 to 1 mix.
