Best example of the kdx rattle...

Man, I really thought I had a real top end problem with the new to me 03 KDX 200 I just bought.

I've heard about the 'rattle' but seeing this makes me feel ok about mine.

Are you guys sure? That second video sounded a lot like mine before I pulled the jug off. The piston and jug were close to being destroyed. Well the pretty much were, they just didn't crumple in to the crankcase. Maybe not but just saying, also had water in gas too.

Pretty normal, but also a good warning to clean your KIPS. New bike, compression test, clean KIPS, service chassis bearings, chain, oil change, filter change. If it still makes the noise screw it. Some of it is in the clutch; run a full qt of oil, not the 750cc on the case.

Mine sounds similar. Noise lowers a bit when I pull in the clutch, which I think is normal as well.

Have you guys tried different premix oils? I've been using cheap stuff and will be looking to change once I get my bike back together.

Been running Maxima K2 syn at 32:1. Love it. Only a little wear after 2 years of semi-aggressive riding.

mine does a similar rattle occasionally. sometimes it's so faint it sounds like a loose valve (for stroke engine) and other times it sounds like hammers on coconuts.

I figure of its still running and making power 18 years later, it will probably be ok.
