KDX Reeds

Post by cararre911 »

Looks like I'm back on here already. The other day I went to ride my 2000 KDX 200 and I noticed that it didn't have any bottom end power, especially going up hills. It has been warming up here and I thought that it was just running too rich on the pilot jet (it has a 48). I took my carb off today so I wouldn't have any downtime when the jets got here and I figured while I was at it I would see what the reed valve looked like. I took it off and one of the carbon plates was chipped and the seals on both sides were broken. When I took my bike to the shop last December they said the reeds were worn out and I assumed they replaced them (guess not). Is it possible that this is the cause of the loss of the bottom end power? They have been like this for months and wouldn't it be strange for it to one day create a substantial loss of power? If they do need replacing do you know where and what model to get? Thanks

I had a chipped reed also. Not carbon fiber, tho. My 220 ran great and I prob wouldn't have noticed had I not removed them to put new 607 reeds in. Maybe something else going wrong?

Looks like a Rad valve. Definitely needs to be replaced.

I've seen the stock reeds with 3 screw holes and some with 2 holes. How do I know they will fit since this isn't the stock reed block. Will these work?

or the carbon ones

The 607's are for the stock reed block. I'm almost certain you have a rad valve.

I've honestly seen very little difference between stock , 607's or the carbon fibre ones I have in there now.

I'd say it's more important to make sure their seating than any particular style.

Oh,cool , I'll check mine out. Didn't know that was a symptom of bottom end peer being weak.
