Here we go, new to me 2004 KDX 200...REFRESH

Post by dsedam »

I will admit, this is my first time making a post anywhere and to think I work in IT....Thought it might be cool to document a hobby I am getting back into now that my kids are coming of age. I bought my son a KX 65 as a Christmas present and so I did not have to chase him through the woods, I picked up an 04 KDX 200 and am building up a log of the fun stuff. Mechanically the KDX is in OK shape, outside of a bent OEM pipe, some spooging going on and soft shocks, we will see where it goes. The intent over the next couple months is to get this thing ready for spring and to convert to a serious riding machine for my big A**...

Here it goes - to date:

Stripped all the goofy/scratched up graphics and scrubbed the hell out of the plastics. FWIW, MR Clean makes some white sponges that take the nasty crap and grease off plastic almost effortlessly (and pretty scary actually)...

Pulled off the bent pipe, installed a new FMF Gnarly woods.

Yanked and stripped all the components of the forks. Bonus - it seems what appears to be the original oil still there  , no surprise there. Bushings et'al seem to be in decent shape, replacing them anyway. Anyone looking for a fork cartridge holder - check this out. Best $12 I have spent in a long time: http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... 02&t=15393.

On order - New fork bushings, gaskets, seals, wipers and some .46kg springs.

On the schedule to order -
JETS - Plug test pending when the snow melts.
Stiffer rear shock and rebuild kit while I am there.
VFORCE Reeds

I am looking for some decent graphics - Monster preferable. Seems like stock is limited outside of FX. Anyone have any ideas? My son has a really nice set from One on his 65 but I am not having any luck finding a match (would be nice for the father/son bond).

Thanks. I have read through your sig links several times...good tips. FYI, your pics are broken. Not sure if this is on purpose or because of the move of kdxrider to a new VPS.

I got some really nice Monster shroud graphics on Ebay from a supplier called Buddy Hopper. I don't see any from him on there now, but I do see a set of Monster graphics on eaby for $40 that includes shrouds, fenders, swing arms. Looks nice. Item # 390407079506.

scheckaet - yes, the bike build pics are the ones.

Turtle - I have been eyeing them as well as the number plate option to go along with them. Still looking. Springs are coming first.

Thanks for the tips.

You can call Dan or Sarah @ BikeGraffix and they will hook you up. Dan is a rider and BIG time supporter of riding and racing. They do so much in the support dept. that I am not sure how they make money. I am proud to call them friends.

They will make you whatever you want, and there is NO fee for the art and design work. Their prices are at or below anyone in the country and the quality is top notch. I had them make some matching graphics for my CR250 and my sons KX65.

Ready for Graphics (dorky PO graphics are gone), carb cleaned and main dropped from a 160 to 158, suspension gone through and the muck that came out of the forks/shock was slop... .46springs/6kg rear spring makes a huge difference noticed already. Installing a D739 rear tire soon (because it is free). For the short ride already noticing more low end torque and snap. Now just need the weekend to get here for a run now that the snow is gone.

Got the bike dialed in and man what a difference the springs, pipe and jetting do...so much time in the woods this weekend, I now need a clutch perch and have melted the number plate parts back together..
