Sparkplug Enduro, Belfair, WA 4-1-07
Anyone headed to the Sparkplug Enduro (Belfair, WA. Tahuya State Forest) on Sunday (4-1-07)? 50+ mile short course, should be fun and exhausting. 35 miles there gets me tired on a normal day.
Gotta get in shape for the Desert100 in two weeks.

Well, I spent a grand total of $20 at Fred Meyer for a bike odometer and digital clock/stopwatch. Maybe I get get this stuff to tell me something useful while I am banging down the trail.
I guess I need a rollchart holder and I am good to go. Not that I know what to do with it.

I tried to get my neighboor to go up with me sunday, he has a newish 250 CRF-X but never wants to ride it because he has not adjusted the valves yet. He is more of a polisher than a rider anyways. I'll plan on meeting you late afternoon on sunday.

Well I survived my first enduro. It was 55+ miles of riding with probably 60-70% of that freshly maintained single track. Lots of tight rocky rooty sections. I had a blast, but I am certainly sore today. That was easily equivalent to the Desert100 as far as strenuousness goes. My cheap odometer quit on mile 3, it did not matter though, the average speeds were pretty high and I was behind the clock all day. I was too tired from the single track to make up the time on the connecting logging roads, pretty much took it easy on those.
I finished 5th out of 11 in 200C, got something to shoot for now.
My bike needs a faster rider now, RB mods plus KX forks makes for a fast bike.

5 / 11 not bad!
55 miles seems like a long ride, is it something you do a lot on w-e?
What did you do to prepare physically?

I did nothing special to prepare, my usual twice a week at the gym. I have been riding once or twice a month through the winter. My main motivation for doing this event was to get in shape for the Desert 100 in two weeks. But I think this event was just as hard as the Desert100. So now I am stoked for the 100. Not sure if I will get another day of riding in before it though, need to hit the gym some more.
If we are going trail riding we usually ride between 25-40 miles in a day. 55 is a lot in the woods with single track.
If I was in better shape I could have done better that 5th, I did not do much catching up on the connecting gravel roads, I was too tired and sucking on my camel back when I got out of the single track.
