Buffalo Pit
I have been riding Buffalo pit since the late 80's
50% Up and down "Slag" from mining, 50% silica sand.
This place has miles of Woods riding.
Lots of shooting in the years past
Water crossing(s)
Tons of "Single track"
I'll repost the picks...I over wrote them by accident

Hello All,
I just purchased a leftover 06 KDX. I live in the Chicago burbs and am looking for places to ride. I see there are several options in the Ottawa area. Namely Buffalo Range and Fox Valley Off Road.
I am a total beginner at trail riding(have ridden street bikes for 15 years) and would like to find a ver non-challenging area to ride. Would either of these two locations suit someone of limited skill?
Thanks, Bill

Buffalo Pit may be ok for starters since it has varried terrain BUT some areas become virtually impossible to ride if they get a lot of rain. Some trails we very badly overgrown last summer so it made riding pretty slow. Forget Fox Vally Offroad if it rains -- mostly clay which gets very slick and quads everywhere.
If you're looking for something flat and small to get used to the bike consider Bong Recreation Area in Southern WI (depending on where you are in the burbs). It's a special use area of a State Park -- but you have to call the morning you plan to ride since they close the "trail" if it gets too muddy. Bikes and quads are allowed -- I hear weekends get pretty crowded. I was there on a Friday and there were only 5 of us out there. I just checked WI DNR and looks like the trails don't open until May.
Finally, there's a place called Cliff's Insane Terrain near Ottawa that might suit you as well. They have trails marked by green, blue and black. This place allows bikes, quads and 4x4s. For comparison, I've seen stock jeeps on the green trails. Not a bad place for a day. http://www.thecliffsinsaneterrain.com/

We need to set a date about a month out to go riding at Buffalo.... I'd be up for that.

I am going to try to go in 2 weeks. Next weekend is the Indy SX So next weekend is out. I was supposed to go today but things didn't workout. So if anyone is up for April 1st chances are I will be there with my brother. If that isn't enough notice it is less than 100 miles from me so I can make it most any weekend if I am not on call.
Riding is living everything else, is just waiting.
